Description
This workshop explores strategies for supporting neurodivergent children and families during the back-to-school transition, focusing on managing anxiety, building routines, and promoting school readiness. We discuss the impact of executive functioning challenges, shutdowns, meltdowns, and burnout, as well as the role of visual supports and sensory activities in reducing stress. Key topics include creating calm morning routines, preparing for uniforms and school environments, and supporting communication for young people with alexithymia.
Parents will gain practical tools for planning, using visual aids, and working with schools on reasonable adjustments, alongside resources such as the Autistic Girls Network website and the Haven alternative education provision.
