The group has been really helpful for our daughter. It’s been really reassuring for her to meet other young people who have some similar struggles to her, as it makes her feel less alone and isolated, more connected. She enjoys the activities, and feels happy because the group is predictable (which is very important to her). She likes the facilitators and feels safer there than in most other social settings. She really likes the other participants too, and it’s lovely for her to meet such great kids. For me as a parent that first part is especially helpful, because when she is finding something hard and feels like she is the only person who would find it hard, I can refer back to the group and remind her that she’s not alone. Then she feels less ashamed for struggling. It’s also a very welcome respite, as there are so few settings where she feels safe enough to be on her own. It’s lovely being able to drop her off and know that I don’t have to worry about how it’s going as I can reliably trust that she will be ok
